Great!
You could even dispense with ‘ chattering’ as we know they do that anyway, and let the haiku resonate with that amazing last line, with that verb, even more!

amid the thunder sheltered sparrows petrichor rising

Intriguingly my comments alert email had the verse as a monostich:
amid the thunder sheltered sparrows chattering petrichor rising
I really like it as a one-line haiku (traditional Japanese format for haiku). 🙂
