House sparrows

I saw them queuing yesterday
eight, nine or ten there in a line
but not today, today they’ve flown
the roofers came and took there home
.
they’ve lived across the road from me
for over thirty years or more
displaced and homeless whatever next
where will they build another nest
.
so many generations lived
beneath the tiles of 308
now with their numbers in decline
are there loose tiles at 309
