The Turkey Vultures just returned and are a sign of spring for us. Their fingers are always what tells them apart.

  2. I didn’t know there was such a difference in Vultures… I’ve some in my area.

“The turkey vulture (Cathartes aura), a historic resident of Pennsylvania, and the black vulture (Coragyps atratus), a recent immigrant, are present in the state throughout the year.”

“Both birds have featherless heads, but Black Vultures [like our own Buttercup] lack the striking red head. Additionally, the birds can be easily identified when in flight. … Black Vultures have shorter wings and tails, and only the very tips of their flight feathers are pale underneath.”
