A friend of mine wondered about birds at Christmas which set me thinking. These are my thoughts.
..
The blue tit didn’t know,
she was eating, swinging about,
feeding a tiny mouse below
she didn’t know was there.
..
Starlings gathered,
chattering round the table,
unconcerned.
..
A great tit watched from a bare branch,
oblivious.
..
Our resident blackbird cocked her head
in wonderment,
paying careful attention to something,
listening.
..
Dunnocks and the wren
popped in and out of the hedge,
searching.
..
All the while, the robin sat
on the old plant pot.
Carolling.
Maybe she knew.

Wonderful. I love the first stanza!
So lovely Elaine! Hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas x
I believe most animals of wing and four legs – all with some bit of brain, know more than humans perceive. Maybe in different ways – but acceptable to Creation. 🙂
Cold rain today. But it could have been snow… Stay well and warm, hugs, Jules
Lovely concept, and so well expressed. Pleased to have come across your poetry.
Thanks Roland.
